What is a Charter? The Distributed Governance Framework (DGF) Charter specifies how Switch node owners will exercise governance over the blockchain and Switch digital rewards.
________________________________________________________________________________________
How will the node owner community ratify the Charter? All Switch node owners will be notified via email prior to voting commencement to make the community aware of the dates voting will take place and the opportunity to review the Charter. Node owners will receive a second email when voting begins with instructions on when and how voting will be conducted.

How will voting work? We have a new way to vote on charters through the DGF interface! First, navigate to The Switch DGF. This platform is exclusively designed for Switch Node Operators, who are key contributors to the Switch blockchain community and operation. For current Switch Node Operators, a brief setup of your device is required. The process is simple, and we’ll guide you through each step. Click "Proposals" then the “Get started” button to begin.
- The first step of the setup is to Install MetaMask to your browser. MetaMask is a secure wallet that keeps your digital assets safe and helps you manage transactions on the blockchain. It serves as a bridge between your Switch wallet and our decentralized governance platform, enabling your participation in the proposal process. By verifying your status as a Node Operator and signing transactions, MetaMask ensures that all actions are authenticated and recorded. This promotes transparency and trust within our ecosystem.
To install MetaMask:
Visit the MetaMask download page.
Click the button to install MetaMask for your browser or mobile device.
When prompted, click "Add" to install the extension to your browser.
Tip: We recommend pinning the MetaMask extension in your browser for easier access. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the MetaMask support article.
- Next, let's connect your Switch wallet to our platform. This crucial step involves importing your Switch wallet into MetaMask and then linking it to the site. Based on your current setup with MetaMask, select the appropriate guide on the DGF site to continue.
This is your first time using Metamask in your browser:
If you're new to MetaMask or haven't used it in this browser before, you'll need to import your Switch wallet using the 12-word mnemonic.
- On the "Let's get started" screen in MetaMask, agree to the terms of use.
- Select "Import an existing wallet" (do not choose to create a new wallet).
- If prompted about improving MetaMask, choose "No thanks."
- Enter the 12-word mnemonic you received when creating your Switch wallet, then click to confirm.
- Create a password, ensuring it's stored in a secure location.
- Acknowledge that MetaMask cannot recover your password for you.
- Click "Import my wallet," followed by "Got it!" to complete the setup
You are already using Metamask in your browser:
If you're already using MetaMask in this browser, you'll need to import your Switch wallet using the private key.
- In MetaMask, click the account selector at the top of your wallet.
- Select "Add account or hardware wallet" at the bottom of the list.
- Select "Import account" on the following menu.
- Paste your Switch wallet's private key in the provided field on the Import page and click "Import."
Please note that your private key is NOT your 12-word phrase. - Your wallet will appear in the account selector dropdown, marked as "Imported."
If you need your Private Key: On the DGF site, you can enter your 12-word seed phrase to retrieve the private key string for your wallet. This process is executed locally on your device, ensuring that your seed phrase and private data remain confidential and are not transmitted.
Reminder that the 12-word seed phrase and private key are the users responsibility to keep safe.
After successfully importing your wallet, proceed to connect it to the site by clicking the "Connect Metamask" button.
- A screen will pop-up prompting you to Connect the Switch Wallet linked in the previous step. Select that wallet, then click "Next".
If you don't see the option to click the "Connect MetaMask" button, try one of these 2 options.
- Refresh your webpage, then click Connect MetaMask
- Click out of the MetaMask window, click back into the window and you will be prompted to connect your account to the Switch Mainnet
The final step is to switch to the Switch Mainnet network to ensure your transactions are executed on the Switch blockchain.
- Click Switch to Switch Mainnet
- Click Approve
- Click Switch Network
Once completed, you will see "setup complete" and have a button to "view proposals".
This will take you to a page where you can view proposals that need to be voted on as well as the option to submit your own proposal.

Are node owners required to vote? No, no node owner is required to vote. However, we would love for all node owners to take the opportunity to read the Charter.
